Application Development
MITrains (My Inventory Trains) is software package built to help model train collectors inventory and value their collections. I originally wrote the application to help my father keep track of his very large Lionel collection. Version 1 of the application was written in Visual Basic (frontend-GUI development tool) and had a Microsoft Access backend database.

We started selling the application in 1998. I built a simple online shoping cart system (In Active Server Pages - ASP) for customers to purchase the software. There was only one version of the database application, but we sold multiple versions of our price guide databases based on train manufacturer. (Lionel, K-Line, MTH, etc.) The database software originally sold for $24.99. The price guides, which we released quarterly, sold for $47.50. CDs were mailed out to the customers who purchase the database application and quarterly price guide updates were distributed through email.

We were featured in Classic Toy Trains magazine on two separate occasions.

In 2007, we rolled out an online version of the application that I wrote using .NET with a Microsoft Access backend database. Because it was a web based application, it ran on PCs, Macs and mobile devices. We continued to produce a price/value guide until 2010.
